Attention: This information will be used as general guidelines and may not be updated to meet the current requirements for pet travel to Thailand. Before you import a pet to Thailand, contact the appropriate authorities for your destination country. This will ensure you understand the latest Thailand pet import rules so your trip goes smoothly.
Microchip
Pets entering Thailand must be microchipped for identification purposes. The microchip should comply with ISO Standard 11784 or Annex A to ISO Standard 11785. Thailand accepts AVID 9 and AVID 10 in addition to ISO standard microchips.
A microchip is an important safety precaution when you import a dog to Thailand. Not only does it serve as identification, but it can help your pet in case they become lost in their new home.
Rabies Vaccination and Certificate
Ensure your pet has an original Rabies Certificate. The certificate must include the microchip number, date of inoculation, and validity period. This inactivated vaccine must be administered after microchipping your pet.
Vet Health Certificate (Form 7001)
A USDA-accredited veterinarian must issue a health certificate within 10 days of your pet's flight. A pet transport service to Thailand can help you understand if your vet is USDA-accredited and help you find the right accreditation before your trip.
Import Permit
Apply for an import permit from the Bangkok Animal Quarantine Station. This Thailand pet import permit is valid for 45 days from the issue date. It’s important to time your pet's travel to Thailand within this timeframe.
USDA Endorsements
The following must be sent to your local USDA for their stamp of approval prior to moving to Thailand with pets.
Additional Vaccines for Dogs: Canine Distemper, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, and Hepatitis (DHLPP).
Additional Vaccines for Cats: Feline Cat Flu-Feline Calicivirus, Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Chlamydia Psittaci, Cat Enteritis-Feline Panleukopaenia/Feline Parvovirus.
These vaccines must be no less than 21 days old at the time of arrival in Thailand and no more than one year old. Vaccines play an important role in your pet’s health before, during, and after they travel. They not only ensure your pet remains healthy during a move but also work to protect local pets and wildlife from diseases.
