“What documents are needed for my dog’s trip to Costa Rica?”

Dear PetRelocation,

I will be visiting Costa Rica in January 2014 and staying for 10 weeks. I will be taking my dog with me and need to know which forms to have my veterinarian complete prior to departure. I understand that there is no pet quarantine period for Costa Rica - is this correct? Also, are there any other forms that I should be aware of?

Thanks,

Diana

Hi Diana,

Thank you for your question. To begin, please take a look at the pet import requirements for Costa Rica. There is currently no quarantine, but you'll need to make sure you have forms and endorsements listed. Here's a link to the USDA website that may help you plan your trip, as well.

When you return to the United States, you'll need to meet the US import requirements as outlined here. These aren't as strict -- basically you need to prove your Vizsla is up to date on the rabies vaccine and will need a vet health certificate issued within 10 days of departure.

If this is confusing and you think you'd like some assistance, please fill out our free quote form and/or peruse our blog for more tips. Pet travel can seem overwhelming at first, but safe and efficient trips are possible with the right approach. Thanks again, and good luck with everything!
