South Africa Import Requirements for Cats

What sort of tests and requirements does my cat need before traveling? I see that dogs must have several tests but wasn't sure about what cats have to do. Do I just need the microchip, pet passport and rabies vaccination?

Hi Szilvi,

Thanks for your questions. Many countries do have different requirements for dogs and for cats, so it's smart to check this all out carefully well in advance of your move.

Take a look at the pet import requirements for South Africa. Yes, as you'll see, dogs need to show they are free of Brucella canis, Trypanosoma evansi, Babesia gibsoni, Dirofilaria immitis and Leishmania, however this stipulation doesn't apply to cats. Your cat does need to be microchipped, have a valid rabies vaccination, and must have the appropriate health documents.
