Hi PetRelocation,
I understand that there isn't a quarantine base in Perth. What happens if my cats need to relocate to Perth? What is the process? How much will this cost?
Thanks,
Lauren
Hi Lauren,
Great question. Relocating your cats to Perth will require fulfilling all the stated import requirements in South Africa (which will probably take at least 180 days), then your cats will fly to Australia and spend 10 days minimum in one of two official quarantine facilities located in Sydney and Melbourne. After fulfilling the quarantine, your cats can then travel to Perth and begin life as usual in your new home.
If you're planning to move October 16, 2015 or later, please note that the Sydney quarantine facility will be closing and at this time only the Melbourne facility will be available. Eventually a new Australia quarantine facility will open in Mickleham, Victoria; by the end of 2018, all pets will go to this quarantine facility upon arrival into the country.
We recently helped a dog named Kuro move from Canada to Perth -- his story may shed some light on the process for you. As far as costs, they will depend on a few factors but the official Australia government website will outline quarantine fees and you can check with Qantas Airlines to find out about cargo travel fees.
Australia is one of the more expensive places to move a pet and also takes a significant amount of planning, however pets do move here safely all the time. If you'd like to discuss the process and your move options with one of our Australia pet move Specialists, please fill out our online consultation form or give our office a call at 1-877-PET-MOVE.
Hopefully this information helps to get you started, Lauren. Good luck, and we hope to hear from you soon!
