Q&A: Pet Travel with English Staffies
Hello,
I am moving to Fiji in a few months and want to take my dog, a 13-year-old desexed female English Staffy. I have heard they are considered a Pit Bull breed in Fiji and are therefore restricted although I am having trouble finding reliable information. Are you able to help with this query?
Thank you.
Maia
Hi Maia,
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately Fiji does prohibit a few breeds from entering the country, including Pit Bull Terriers.
Since English Staffordshire Terriers are in the Pit Bull "family" and many consider them the same breed (even though that's not technically true), you likely won't be able to bring your dog to Fiji. In many cases involving pet travel and breed restrictions, if a dog resembles a Pit Bull or a Pit Bull mix, they will be affected by that country's applicable breed restrictions.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Maia. You are welcome to double check this information by contacting the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji.
If you have additional questions you think we can help with, please contact us. Good luck with everything!
