Hi PetRelocation,
How much time in advance should I contact you guys and start working with you? Also, how much is it to move my 2-year-old, 11 lb dog from the USA to Australia?
I am planning on moving in March 2017.
Thanks,
Alexandra
Hi Alexandra,
Thanks, these are great questions.
Generally speaking, we advise starting to plan a pet move at least 30 days ahead of time, but since you're going to Australia we'd say to contact us at least 6 months before you're planning to move.
Australia pet import requirements are stricter than most other countries, and pets will need to undergo a series of rabies vaccines and blood tests before they can be admitted. The process takes at least 190 days from start to finish, and to start we recommend taking a look at the official Australia government website for guidance.
You're welcome to contact us at any time with your questions, but ultimately as long as you get in touch with us 6 or 7 months before you plan to relocate then you're setting yourself up for a successful pet move. It may be possible for you to contact us later than that if you start the process on your own, but if you want to be sure that everything is in order, one of our Australia Specialists would be happy to consult with you.
As for cost, this will depend on several factors but you should prepare yourself for the fact that Australia is one of the more expensive countries to move a pet. When moving a small dog like yours with the help of experts, you can easily expect to spend at least $3500 USD once quarantine costs, vet visits, airfare and various other details are accounted for. Again, you're welcome to contact us to discuss this in greater depth.
Just let us know whenever you're ready to chat, Alexandra. We look forward to hearing from you!
