Dear PetRelocation,
How do I get my sugar gliders to the UK? What is the process? I heard they would die on the plane so I would like to ship them but I don't know anything about this.
Many thanks,
Bo
Hi Bo,
Thanks for submitting a question to us. Before you research various airline requirements to find out which carriers would allow sugar glider travel, please know that the United Kingdom imposes specific requirements for non-native species coming into the country.
As you'll see on the GOV.UK website in the section pertaining to this matter, most non-native mammals are subject to a six month quarantine upon arrival. Please review this information about importing non-native animals to find out more about what the rules are and who you can contact if you have specific questions.
Part of planning pet travel is deciding if it's a good idea to move a pet in the first place -- not all species are equipped to handle a trip well and the costs and time associated may not be worth it.
According to other sugar glider owners who have discussed this issue online, it seems that sugar gliders are pretty sensitive to travel and may be better off avoiding such a big ordeal (especially if the only option ends up being cargo travel). We would definitely recommend talking over the possibility with your vet or other animal health expert before deciding to carry out a trip like this.
Good luck, Bo, and please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
