Preparing for Dog and Cat Travel to the UK

Hi PetRelocation,

 

I am relocating from Philadelphia to the UK and would like to know what I will need to do to get my animals home safely. I brought them both out here in 2010 and I would like to get them back as smoothly as possible.

Sid is a pug, which seems to be a breed not accepted by most airlines. I do not want to put them in any kind of quarantine. I would like the most direct route for them and to cause them the least amount of stress.

Thank you for your message, we'd be happy to offer some guidance about your pet travel options.

 

For dog and cat travel to the United Kingdom, we often use British Airways because of their trusted pet safe policies. British Airways does fly pugs but recommends that you use a travel crate that is one size larger than normal. Here is more information about traveling with pets using British Airways. United is another of our preferred carriers, but with pugs you'll need to wait until after Sept. 15 (see their snub nosed pet travel information here).

 

For reference, you'll also need to be familiar with the import rules for the UK. If you follow the details of the Pet Travel Scheme correctly, there will be no quarantine for your pets.

 

Finally, though it sounds like you're familiar with pet travel procedures, it never hurts to brush up on the basics by looking over these essential pet travel tips. As you'll see, crate training and choosing a pet friendly airline are both good ways to reduce your pets' anxiety as well as your own.
