I am confused about one aspect of the rules for direct airport release. I have received two different answers from the DoA and the info on their website sometimes refers to "most recent or current" or "second."
Does the requirement that the most recent rabies vaccine be given no earlier than 90 days before arrival in Hawaii apply to all vaccinations or only to the second vaccination? My dog's rabies vaccinations were given on 9/1/11 (first shot) 10/11/11 (first booster), 8/12/2012 (current booster). Does she need to wait 90 days from the 8/12/2012 date before entering Hawaii?
Hi Terri,
Shipping pets to Hawaii can certainly be confusing, and we're happy to try to help you meet the 5-Day-or-Less Program. At least two rabies vaccines are necessary, and the most recent one needs to have been done at least 90 days before departure. So yes, you need to wait at least 90 days from Aug. 12, 2012 before entering Hawaii if you'd like to avoid the quarantine.
