I am writing to see if I can receive information on the most up-to-date requirements for a dog to enter Germany from the United States.
We used your company to relocate our dog, Winston, to Japan and had a wonderful experience. Although we plan to travel with Winston this time, I know the staff at PetRelocation is extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
I believe I have all the steps below, but I hope for confirmation and clarification on step 2.
Identification with ISO-compliant microchip. This was done for Japan and should meet the requirements for Germany.
Rabies vaccination. I understand that because the US is "rabies controlled," he will NOT need a titer test after the vaccination. Is this correct?
Have an accredited Veterinarian issue a health certificate dated within 10 days of departure. I see that health certificates for the EU can be downloaded from the APHIS website.
Send certificate to be endorsed by APHIS within 10 days of departure date.
I appreciate your time, and thank you again for the wonderful service!
Best Regards,
Erica
Hi Erica,
It's great to hear from you again! We'd be happy to share some information to help with Winston's trip to Germany.
Here is a link to our German pet import requirement page and the official German government site regarding pet imports.
As for your specific question, no titer test is needed for bringing pets to Germany from the US. It looks like you understand the rules well, so the only other thing we'd mention is that pets must fly within five days of their owner to be considered a non-commercial shipment to Germany. It sounds like you're planning to do this, but as this is a newer rule, we wanted to mention it just in case.
Hope this helps, Erica! Here's one final resource about bringing pets to Germany, our Ultimate DIY Guide, and if you have any additional questions or change your mind and decide you'd like some help, we're here to talk.
Safe travels, and say hi to Winston for us!
