Hi PetRelocation,
My dog is 1 year old. I got him in Thailand in October of last year. He was vaccinated and microchip implanted before export.
My dog is also registered with The Kennel Club of Thailand. I moved with my dog to India in December, and now I wish to move to New Zealand and wish to take my pet with me.
Are pets from Thailand/India allowed to be imported into NZ? What documents are required?
Thanks,
Fardoon
Hi Fardoon,
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, neither Thailand or India are approved countries under the New Zealand pet import regulations.
This means that your dog can't be imported directly into NZ -- he will need to be sent first to an approved country and follow the steps as outlined -- here's a link to the official New Zealand website regarding pet imports.
The easiest way to do this would be to send your dog to the US and have him stay in the US for 180 days. He would need to follow these New Zealand pet import requirements carefully, then he could travel to NZ and would undergo a 10 day quarantine in the NZ quarantine facility upon arrival, which is required for pets coming from approved countries.
Hopefully this helps! Let us know if you need any further assistance -- we've helped many pet owners handle complex pet moves and would be happy to assist.
